Isaac and Suzanne Get Married - July 17

120

Isaac and Suzanne Are Married - July 17 in Wichita, KS.

On July 17 Isaac and Suzanne (Morton) were married in Wichita, KS.  It was one of the hottest days of the year (105 degrees that day!).   The wedding day was great, with family and friends coming from all around the country.   High school friends from Papua New Guinea days also came as did several teachers from Black Forest Academy who were on furlough in the USA.

The wedding was held in a beautiful church with stained glass windows.  The wedding colors were blue for the bridesmaids and the groomsmen had red vests.  The reception was held in a nearby museum that gave the wedding guest lots of room and a perfect place for kids to also be entertained.

At the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding, Chuck & Barb gave a PNG "bride price" payment of PNG bilums, baskets, food and PNG money along with 11 pigs (don't worry, they weren't real)!  That made the whole thing legal :-)!

To see more photos, you'll need to become their friends on Facebook.

Isaac and Suzanne Announce Their Engagement

In December 2009 Isaac announced his engagement to Suzanne Morton.   Suzanne is a fellow teacher at Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany.  They hope to get married in the summer of 2010  in the USA.

They are currently in back in Germany and making plans for the upcoming wedding. After the honeymoon, they plan to return to the school to continue teaching.

Suzanne is a misisonary teacher with "Teach Beyond" and Isaac is a missionary teacher with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Isaac continues his teaching at Black Forest Academy in Germany

Isaac is now in his third year of teaching at Black Forest Academy in Germany.   He is currently teaching AP European and AP USA History.   He also helps coach the JV soccer team.

Thank you all for your continued prayers for Isaac.   He has a nice small apartment and lives near the school.   He enjoys riding bikes, hikes in the mountains and spending time with Suzanne Morton who also teaches at the school.   Please continue to pray for his financial support.   With the US dollar weakened, the amount sent to him each month has decreased.   Pray for a strong team.  So what part can you play in helping him with this need?

Here is how his current needs can be met:

First, we'd like to ask that you pray to the Lord that he will pour out this resources.   Secondly, we'd like to ask you to pray specifically that people will respond to this need.

He needs several more partners committing $ 50/month, or several more partners  committing $25/month.

Here is the link (below) if you know someone or you are interested in giving to meet Isaac's need by giving online.  However, if you give this way, please indicate the gift is for Isaac Micheals (his biggest need is for monthly supporters) and then send him an email to inform him of your gift.  His email address is: Isaac_Micheals@sil.org.  There is an underscore line between Isaac and Micheals so his address is: Isaac _ Micheals @ sil.org (but with no spaces).

Make sure you put Isaac's name down if you want the gift to go to him, and indicate if the gift is one time/monthly/quarterly etc.

Previous Notes

In 2007, Isaac spent a week in Jacksonville, FL attending an AP European History summer training seminar.  The course was to get him ready to teach AP European History, and while sitting in a classroom all day got a bit tedious at times, overall the course was indispensable.  He is now back in Orlando where he will remain until he leaves for Germany.

Please Pray:  Many of you have told Isaac that you have been praying for him and this has been a great encouragement.  He believes that God answers prayers and he is trusting that God is able to met his needs.  Your prayers are needed and appreciated.

Advocate:  Another way that you can help is to advocate on Isaac's behalf.  Perhaps you have a small group, or have friends who may be interested in what Isaac is doing.  You may help lead a youth group or Sunday school class that would be interested in partnering with Isaac.  Your church may be looking for a missionary to support.  You could be a blessing to Isaac by advocating for him with the people you know.

Once again, we would like to thank you for all you do for Isaac.

Several Weeks Ago - Isaac is now at 58% support!  Three weeks to go to reach 100%!!!

Isaac has just three weeks before he is scheduled to leave for Germany!   However, he cannot leave until he has pledges of 100% support.  As of July 18, he is at 58% support.   This means people have pledged and begun to send in 58% of the income he will need to live on as a teacher for Wycliffe.  However, he cannot be released to the work in Germany until he has people or churches together pledge 100% support.  Roughly he still needs    $ 900 per month in support to be pledged.   Please pray this need will be met.

To pledge your support of Isaac, please either go to the link below or email him your pledge amount as soon as possible.   Time is of the essence.   His biggest need is for monthly support.  If many people join his team, this need can be met.   Please don't delay if you wish to give!   Many small monthly gifts will add up quickly.

  • http://www.wycliffe.org/Donate/MissionaryMinistries.aspx                                      (This is a secure web link.   In the "Special Instruction" section, please state if the pledge is monthly.  One time gifts are also important, but a one time gift pledged over a year or two and made into a monthly pledge would be most helpful.  Please indicate that this gift is for Isaac Micheals)

Isaac will be teaching at Black Forest Academy in Germany as a Wycliffe missionary teacher (http://www.bfacademy.com/). He will be teaching "AP European History" and "Worldviews".

He is praying that his full support will be pledged so that he can attend in Germany the new Black Forest Academy teacher orientation and language acquistion course starting August 6.   Classes at Black Forest Academy in Germany where he will be teaching start August 27.

In April Isaac attended a two week Wycliffe new member orientation course in Orlando.  He returned to Holland, MI to finish up his current job and in early July moved to Orlando in anticipation of his departure to Germany.   Last week he finished his Wycliffe teacher orientation course in Orlando and next week attends an AP European Workshop seminar in Jacksonville, FL that is required by Black Forest Academy.

If you would like to email Isaac directly and let him know of your pledge of support or to let him know that you will be praying for him, please write him at Isaac_Micheals@sil.org or contact us.

Past New Bulletins - Isaac Heads to Germany to Teach at a Mission School

Isaac just become a Wycliffe Bible Translator member and has been accepted to teach high school social studies at Black Forrest Academy in Germany as a Wycliffe teacher.   Isaac plans to move to Germany in late summer to be ready to teach at the beginning of the school year.

As a missionary with Wycliffe, Isaac will need to raise his support as do all Wycliffe missionaries.  If you would like to find out how you can support Isaac and his work with Wycliffe, please write him at Isaac_Micheals@sil.org or contact us.

We are thrilled that Isaac is now a member of Wycliffe with us.   Please pray for him as he raises needed support and makes plans to travel to Germany later this summer.

Isaac Finishes His Temporary Teaching Job

Isaac is still living in Holland, MI and recently finished his temporary teaching position as a History and English teacher at Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Michigan.   He taught there for a semester for a teacher who was gone on maternity leave.

Isaac Finishes Substitute Teaching and  Service with AmeriCorp

Isaac completed his substitue teaching jobs in the Holland, MI area and also wrapped up his year of service with AmeriCorp where he has been assisting at a youth ministry center ("The Bridge").  He has been acting as a tutor and assisting with the gym activities.

If you would like to know how you can conenct up with and encourage Isaac, please contact us at: Chuck_Micheals@wycliffe.org or call us at (407) 671-2817.

The photo of Isaac was taken at the Castillo de San Marcos fort in St. Augustine, FL.  Our family visited there over the Christmas holidays.

Isaac Headed To Alaska in the Summer of 2005 For Six Weeks Of  Salmon Fishing

Here is where Isaac was in the summer of 2005.  He fished on a salmon boat near Bristol Bay, Alaska.  He finished his year of sub substitute teaching in Holland, MI and so this was his summer job in 2005.

This is where Isaac fished:

Bristol Bay Borough is known as the "Red Salmon Capital of the World" as well as the "Gateway to Katmai National Park and Preserve." It is located in Southwestern Alaska at the head of Kvichak (KWEE-jak) Bay, an arm of the larger Bristol Bay.

Bristol Bay Borough was incorporated as the state's first borough in 1962. The borough functions as the official governing body for Naknek, South Naknek, and King Salmon and provides a variety of important services. The borough offices are located in Naknek.

The main feature of the borough's setting is the Naknek River and the cliffs bordering Kvichak Bay. At Naknek and South Naknek, where the cliffs are at their highest and the river is at its widest, the combination of the broad tidal river and the brown cliffs with their crowning greenery, present a truly striking picture. Looking across the river from one community to the other, the towns appear dwarfed by the cliffs on which they are situated.

Naknek - Naknek is located on the north bank of the Naknek River. In 1890, the first cannery opened on the Naknek River. By 1900, there were approximately 12 canneries in Bristol Bay. The Homestead Act enabled canneries to acquire land for their plants and also make land available to other institutions and individuals. The parcel owned by the Russian Orthodox Church on the north side of the Naknek River was the first land recorded in Naknek. Squatters built shelters on the church property and were eventually sold lots in what became the center of Naknek. A U.S. post office was established in 1907. Naknek has developed over the years as a major Alaska fishery center and center of local government.

King Salmon - King Salmon is located on the north bank of the Naknek River, about 15 miles up river from Naknek. The two communities are connected by the Alaska Peninsula Highway. King Salmon is the regional transportation center, with many airline flights in and out daily.

At the beginning of World War II, the U.S. government constructed an air force base in King Salmon. The base was maintained throughout the war by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The base was closed in 1994. In 1949, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the road connecting King Salmon to Naknek. A U.S. post office was established in King Salmon the same year. Other developments that occurred around that time included the construction of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game quarters, a weather bureau office, and expansion of the FAA.

Isaac moved to Holland, Michigan mid-August 2004 after two years of teaching in Haiti!

Isaac moved to Holland, Michigan where he is looked for employment after coming home Mid-June 2004.  He roomed with his cousin, Jason Perton who also taught in Haiti and also lives in Holland looking for a full time job.

Isaac finished in June 2004 his second year of teaching at Quisqueya Christian School in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.  Exams are done, grades are turned in and Isaac toured a bit of Haiti before returning to Chicago on June 17.

Isaac Returns To Haiti - March 13, 2004

Isaac returned to Haiti on March 13, 2004 after being evacuated by the Christian Reformed Church World Mission (CRCWM) board.  Isaac stayed in the Dominican Republic for about a week and then went to Chicago for a week and a half to be with his parents.  He returned to Haiti on March 13, 2004 after the CRCWM board gave the approval.

Check out photos of Isaac which are located in the photo link to the left.

Isaac went to Haiti in August 2002 to teach at Quisqueya Christian School (QCS).  He has been there for almost two years.  Catch up on Isaac's prayer points from Haiti in our "Prayer Request" link to the left.

Check out the school where Isaac teaches in Haiti online at:

http://www.quisqueya.org/

This school is a K - 12 Christian school set up for both missionary kids (MKs) and as an outreach for Haitian children.  Currently there are about 280 students enrolled at the school.  The high school has 90 students.

Isaac was sent out by the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) as a Partner Missionary to this school since the CRC has missionaries in Haiti who have children that attend the school.  He is partially funded by a small salary from the school, but gets most of his support from what people and churches send to him via the CRC.

This is Isaac's second year at QCS.  Isaac is teaching high school American Literature, Modern World History, US History and Comparative Government.   His homeroom is the boy's 9th grade class.

Isaac enjoys living cross culturally and has learned enough of the Haitian Creole to get around, although he'd like to learn more.  However, teaching takes up most of his time and so school really is 'his life'.   From time to time, he has been able to make it to the beach to relax and has visited the famous Haitian Citadel.

http://www.haiti.org/Travel&Tourism/main_trravel&tourism.htm

He lives about a block from the school and so easily walks to school.  His apartment unit houses other teachers from the school so he is not alone.

Isaac's cousin Jason Perton taught with Isaac last year.  However, Jason returned to the USA after teaching at QCS for a year.
